On tonight’s Womb Happy Hour episode Marian Buck-Murray shared powerful reasons on how Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) can help you conquer your cravings. The sacral chakra – an energy center down there – is associated with emotions and our relationships to people, situations and food. Estimates by experts suggest that 75% of overeating is caused by emotions. Are your emotions impacting your cravings? Find out how to conquer cravings without worrying about your willpower.

Conquer Your Cravings with EFT
Why is it that our cravings can seem so impossible to conquer? EFT Practitioner Marian Buck-Murray has tips that will make conquering cravings feel so much easier. There are numerous underlying factors that trigger our cravings, making them feel so powerful. Our cravings are our body’s way of seeking balance. When we bring ourselves back into balance, we’re less vulnerable to our cravings. Marian will share how EFT Tapping is the perfect tool for neutralizing intense cravings, and the underlying emotions that trigger them. Marian and host, Lorraine Giordano, will also explore how emotional imbalances in the sacral chakra impact cravings.
Why isn’t willpower enough to stop cravings and overeating?
When it comes conquering cravings, very little can be done with will power alone. Will power and discipline are necessary, however sometimes they are not enough. Sometimes there might be a nutritional deficiency or hormonal fluctuations which trigger cravings. Often this can be corrected by proper nutrition, and sometimes supplementation.
Most often, though, cravings are intimately connected with our need for emotional wellbeing. When we’re feeling sad, angry, stressed, bored, it’s easy to trigger cravings for unhealthy substances such as junk food, alcohol, drugs, and cigarettes. And these substances work to help us feel better, at least in the beginning. It’s when we use them as a substitute for emotional sustenance.
Why is EFT Tapping so effective for conquering cravings?
EFT Tapping is one of the most effective techniques for reducing cortisol, which, of course, is our major stress hormone. High cortisol can trigger cravings for high-fat, high-sugar foods. High cortisol levels also raise blood sugar levels, which can contribute to growth of candida yeast. Candida yeast is frequently underlying factor of persistent sugar cravings. By using EFT to reduce cortisol, we are automatically less vulnerable to our cravings.
In addition to reducing cortisol, EFT Tapping is an effective tool for deactivating and clearing uncomfortable feelings such as anger, fear, frustration, stress, and sadness. By clearing unwanted feelings, we bring ourselves back into emotional balance. It’s this emotional balance that helps us resist unhealthy cravings.
And, EFT Tapping helps to knock a craving off its pedestal. Often we have intense cravings for things we think will make us feel good and happy. However usually they don’t. EFT can help reduce the intensity of the craving. This is what helps knock the craving off its pedestal, making it more normal, and less attractive.
What led you to become an EFT Practitioner?
I was a Nutrition Coach for many years. I loved my work, but it became very clear to me that it’s never just about the food. Although change in diet can do wonders in letting go of unhealthy cravings, sometimes it’s not enough.
I saw that many of my clients had emotional blocks and limiting beliefs that led to their issues with food. I knew I needed a tool to help them. So, I began by researching and finding out as much as I could about EFT Tapping, so that I could share this information with my clients. And it really did help them.
Eventually, I pursued professional certification in EFT Tapping. And I fell in love with it. I only very recently let go of my nutrition practice.
What would you suggest to someone struggling with cravings for unhealthy foods?
It’s never a clear answer for everyone, since each of us has our own individual connections with foods. However, there are basic guidelines that will help.
- Make sure you’re eating a well-balanced, alkaline diet, with plenty of greens, whole grains, good fats, and clean animal products. The more balanced your diet, the more satisfied you will feel, making you less vulnerable to cravings.
- Reduce stress on a daily basis. Meditate, do yoga, take walks, use EFT Tapping, go for a massage or a reiki treatment. The lower your stress, the lower your cortisol, the easier it will be to let go of unhealthy cravings.
- Pinpoint the underlying emotions behind your cravings. What is going on for you at the time of your craving? Once you’re clear on what you’re feeling, embrace your feelings with love. Be kind to yourself. Do something to soothe yourself that doesn’t involve food, substances, any other type of addictive behavior. This is also a good time to use EFT Tapping.
- Be present with yourself. Eat mindfully, not reactively. When your present, and truly paying attention to what you’re eating, you are much less likely to overeat, or eat unhealthy foods.
